ADAMA’s First Solo Exhibit We Need Love Opens at Pittsburgh Yards May 11th

The African Diaspora Art Museum of Atlanta (ADAMA), an innovative museum showcasing contemporary art and culture of the African Diaspora, is thrilled to announce its first exhibition, "We Need Love: An International Exhibition Honoring Black Love.” The groundbreaking exhibit will explore Black love as a freeing force that is powerful, revolutionary, healing, unapologetic, proud, and unifying.

The exhibit is curated by Nydia Blas, an Atlanta photographer and educator, and features 53 artists from across the diaspora whose work reflects the layers of love: as celebrations, complicated, and beautiful. From photography, painting, sculpture, video, textiles, and mixed media, these artists peel apart the layers of self-love, romantic love, love for our countries, and love of our people

"I am excited about curating a life-changing experience," said Blas. "Black love has the power to transform our lives and communities. Through this exhibition, we will celebrate and honor the unwavering and fearless spirit of Black love."

The show runs from May 11th - June 8th at Pittsburgh Yards, a community-led economic catalyst thriving on 31 acres in Southwest Atlanta that serves as a commercial, recreational and community anchor and offers career, entrepreneurship and wealth-building opportunities for residents in and around the city’s Neighborhood Planning Unit V. It is an area hub for economic development and supports community and cultural activities. ADAMA received a grant from the Annie E. Casey Foundation to activate at Pittsburgh Yards, and "We Need Love" is the first exhibition of its size to be showcased there, and the first for ADAMA.

The opening night of the exhibition will feature a special event preview for museum members and a private rooftop auction.
