ADAMA Arts Salon 81: Iman Lemma in conversation with Aida Beshah
About the Moderator: Iman Lemma is a program and community engagement professional with a background spanning public health, education, and community development. As Program Manager at ADAMA, she supports the development and execution of arts programming, partnerships, and community-centered experiences that connect people through culture and creativity. As an Ethiopian-American, she is especially drawn to the ways art and culture can create connection, preserve stories, and celebrate the richness of the diaspora.
About the Panelist: Aida Beshah is an Atlanta-based, Ethiopian-born self-taught mixed media artist whose practice explores identity, heritage, resilience, and the complex experiences of women. Drawing from her Ethiopian heritage and personal experiences of belonging, Aida creates expressive works that examine the intersection of vulnerability, strength, memory, and cultural identity.
Her multidisciplinary practice incorporates graphite, charcoal, ink, acrylic, pastel, colored pencil, and collage, resulting in richly layered figures and compositions. Her work is characterized by elongated forms, fragmented imagery, and recurring circular lines that create a sense of movement, connection, and emotional depth.
For Aida, art is deeply personal…a way of processing lived experience while celebrating the strength, beauty, and complexity of women. Her work invites viewers into an intimate exploration of identity and resilience, bridging personal memory with the broader questions of what it means to belong. Aida has exhibited her work extensively in Atlanta and beyond, and her practice continues to evolve through an ongoing exploration of culture, emotion, and the stories carried within the human form.
