About the Moderator: Susana M. Morris is a Black feminist scholar and a cultural critic who has dedicated her career to studying the interior lives of Black women. She is a professor of Literature, Media, and Communication at Georgia Tech. She has been an Anschutz Distinguished Fellow at Princeton University and was most recently the Norman Freeling Visiting Professor at the University of Michigan. She is the author of Close Kin and Distant Relatives: The Paradox of Respectability in Black Women’s Literature, co-editor of The Crunk Feminist Collection, and co-author of the young adult handbook Feminist AF: The Guide to Crushing Girlhood. She is the co-founder of The Crunk Feminist Collective and has written for venues such as Gawker, Long Reads, Cosmopolitan, and Ebony, and has also been featured on NPR and the BBC, and in The Atlantic, Book Page, Essence, the New York Times, and the Washington Post. Her most recent book is Positive Obsession: The Life and Times of Octavia E. Butler.
About Delphine Diallo: Delphine Diaw Diallo is a French-Senegalese visual artist whose work explores the relationship between image, consciousness, and cultural narrative. Working across photography, collage, moving image, and artificial intelligence, her practice investigates how visual languages shape identity, memory, and collective imagination.
Born in Paris in 1977, Diallo studied visual arts at the Académie Charpentier before beginning her career as a visual designer and motion graphic artist in the music industry. After moving to New York, she dedicated herself fully to photography and developed a portrait practice that reimagines the representation of Black women beyond the historical frameworks of colonial and patriarchal imagery. Through photography and collage, her work constructs visual archetypes that merge documentary precision with mythic symbolism.
