Announcing ADAMA’s Inaugural Flowers x Seeds Gala which will honor Dr. Arturo Lindsay.

On the occasion of The African Diaspora Art Museum of Atlanta (ADAMA)’s 5th anniversary, we are delighted to announce the inaugural Flowers x Seeds Gala. Flowers x Seeds is an annual event that honors under-recognized artists whose works amplify the African diaspora. This gala serves as ADAMA's primary fundraising initiative, with all proceeds supporting the development of a world-class arts destination, as well as ongoing educational initiatives, exhibitions, and public programming.

Flowers x Seeds advances ADAMA's mission to spotlight the arts and culture of the African Diaspora by "giving flowers" to artists of African descent who have made a substantial impact but have remained largely unrecognized by the broader art world.

Simultaneously, ADAMA aims to "plant seeds" by recognizing an emerging artist of African descent whose work showcases promise and expands the understanding of Black art and culture in the 21st century.

We are thrilled to announce that, thanks to the generous support of the Judith Alexander Foundation, the Flowers x Seeds recipients will be honored with the prestigious "Nellie Mae Rowe Award." The award will provide $30,000 and $20,000, respectively, to the selected artists, acknowledging their exceptional contributions to the art world.

The Flowers x Seeds Gala is scheduled to take place in February 2024. This highly anticipated event promises to be an immersive experience that celebrates the richness and diversity of the African diaspora while also fostering meaningful connections and shared learning opportunities.

ABOUT THE AWARD

The Judith Alexander Foundation has generously provided a grant for the first presentation of The Nellie Mae Rowe Award to be awarded to our committee-selected Flower and Seed honorees.

The Judith Alexander Foundation (JAF) honors the multifaceted legacy of the late art patron, Judith Alexander, by supporting Georgia visual artists and by preserving and expanding recognition of the extraordinary existence and artistry of Nellie Mae Rowe.
