ADAMA Arts Salon: Special Edition

ADAMA Arts Salon: Dr. Fahamu Pecou in Conversation with Andrew Dosunmu

Join ADAMA on Saturday, June 20 at 2 PM for a special edition of the ADAMA Arts Salon featuring ADAMA founder Dr. Fahamu Pecou in conversation with acclaimed Nigerian photographer and filmmaker Andrew Dosunmu, whose exhibition The African Game is currently on view.

As Atlanta welcomes the world through the FIFA World Cup, The African Game offers a timely and deeply personal reflection on football's role as one of the most powerful cultural forces across the African continent. Captured across Angola, Cameroon, DR Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Nigeria, and Senegal, the exhibition explores football not simply as a sport, but as a language of community, identity, aspiration, and belonging.

Through striking photographs and immersive visual storytelling, Dosunmu documents the streets, fields, fans, and everyday moments that surround the game. The exhibition reveals how football transcends borders, unites communities, and serves as a powerful expression of joy, resilience, and cultural pride throughout Africa and the African Diaspora.

In conversation with Dr. Fahamu Pecou, Dosunmu will discuss the inspiration behind The African Game, the process of documenting diverse communities across the continent, and the role of photography and film in preserving cultural memory. Together, they will explore the intersections of sport, art, identity, and storytelling, while reflecting on the exhibition's relevance as Atlanta finds itself at the center of a global football moment.

Born in Nigeria and based between New York and Lagos, Andrew Dosunmu is internationally recognized for his distinctive visual style and commitment to portraying the beauty, complexity, and humanity of people of African descent. Drawing from his roots in photography, his work elevates everyday experiences into compelling visual narratives that challenge assumptions and celebrate culture.

In addition to the salon conversation, guests will have the opportunity to experience a special fashion pop-up curated by South African fashion brand Fuata Moyo. Showcasing contemporary designs inspired by African craftsmanship, culture, and style, the pop-up will feature select pieces available for purchase throughout the afternoon.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to tour The African Game exhibition, making this a unique opportunity to engage with art, fashion, storytelling, and community all in one experience.

This conversation takes place during the Atlanta BeltLine Fan Festival, creating a unique opportunity to engage with one of the city's most exciting World Cup celebrations while experiencing an exhibition that examines football through an African lens.

Join us for an afternoon of art, dialogue, culture, and connection as we celebrate the global impact of African creativity and storytelling.
